Wright State beats Bryant to score program's first win in NCAA men's basketball tournament

 DAYTON, Ohio-- Wright State's lot is located just 12 country miles from University of Dayton Arena, but the Aggressors had not played a game there since 1997.

 Playing in front of a Wright State-heavy crowd Wednesday night in the First Four, the Aggressors beat Bryant 93-82 to record the first NCAA event palm in platoon history. Guard Tanner Holden scored 37 points, one shy of a career high, to outplay the nation's leading scoring, Peter Kiss, in a tourney ofNo. 16 seeds. 

 

 Wright State advanced to the event's first round, where it'll faceNo. 1 seed Arizona on Friday in San Diego. 

The Aggressors were making their alternate appearance in the once four NCAA events and fourth overall, but the former three ended with first-round defeats.

"It was a tremendous experience of all of us, but I know for our players commodity they'll noway forget,"Nagy said."Obviously, we were fortunate to get to play in Dayton. At some point, it feels a little illegal, but it's the way it worked out. I was thankful that if we were going to be a 16- seed, we'd get that chance."

 

 

 Nagy credited guard Tim Finke for his defense against Kiss, a elderly who led Bryant with 28 points but demanded 25 shots. Kiss came in with 10 games of 30 points or more this season, including 34 against Wagner in the Northeast Conference crown game. 


" Just extremely proud of everybody on this platoon," said Kiss, a Rutgers transfer who came emotional when talking about Bryant trainer Jared Grasso."I am just so thankful for this man (Grasso) sitting right next to me. He is done so much for me."

 

 After Wednesday's palm, Wright State targets an indeed bigger major achievement against Arizona.

Wright State, Bryant face off in First Four

DAYTON – Playing in just 10 country miles down from home, Wright State places off against Bryant at UD Arena Wednesday. 
 
 The Aggressors won the Horizon League crown in dramatic fashion over Northern Kentucky. Trey Calvin nailed the game- winner just inside the free gamble line with10.5 second left to give WSU the 72-71 palm. They traced by 16 and reeled off 14 straight points to battle back into the game. 
Four Wright State players posted double numbers. Calvin netted 21 points. Tanner Holden tallied 19 points, while Grant Basile poured in 18, and Tim Finke added 10. 
 
 The Aggressors finished fourth in the conference in the regular season. They knocked off top seed Cleveland State by 15 in the semifinals before the palm over Northern Kentucky. 
Holden leads the platoon with19.8 points per game, which was good for third in the conference. Basile was right behind him at18.5 points and boasted a platoon-stylish8.6 rebounds. 
 
 It's Wright State’s fourth appearance in the NCAA Event and first since 2018. 
By discrepancy, Bryant is making its first appearance in March Madness. The Bulldogs won the NEC regular season and event crowns. 
 
 In the crown game, Bryant rolled historyNo. 2 Wagner 70-43. The Bulldogs scored 25 of the game’s 29 points. Peter Kiss powered the offense with 34 points. He also registered six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Charles Pride posted a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. 
Bryant has lost just formerly sinceJan. 6. It has won 16 of the last 17 games it played, including the last seven. The Bulldogs hardly escaped with a one- point palm over MountSt. Mary’s in the NEC semifinals, which redressed last season’s loss in the crown game.
